The leader can perform every operation inside the co-op. They can:
Only the leader can promote someone to leader, after which they will become a deputy. If the leader leaves the co-op, the highest ranking member will become the leader.
The deputies can perform every operation that the leader can (including promoting and demoting other deputies) except for removing or demoting the leader. They can not boot a fellow deputy, but they can demote them and then boot them. Silly.
Members can contribute to projects and donate to the village. They cannot see the Cooperative leadership chat.
For many years, all of the documentation has said that the lights indicate a player's online status. The times listed were wrong and corrected in 2022. We found that the green light went out 15 mins after a player left the game, but with some inconsistencies. In April of 2025, Big Farm shortened the 'online' time to 5 mins from 20 mins, to more accurately reflect when players are online and then leave the game. Suddenly, co-ops started to notice they would be chatting with players that are shown as offline, adding even more confusion.
After discussing it with Big Farm, what happens, due to limitations and stability, is that the light timer starts when a player logs onto the game. Historically, players logged in often enough (popping in and out within 20 mins) to keep their light on. With the shortening of the time to 5 mins, if you are online for more than 5 mins, your light goes out. This also means that if you manage to stay on the game for 24 hours, your light will go yellow, even if you are online.
It is a completely illogical system as advertised and can only be used to tell you when someone last logged on, not if they are active, or how long they have been gone.
This means that the member is online or has been online in the last 14 mins. Sometimes, if you devices goes to sleep or you open another app, the connection can stay active in the background. Bottom line is that you can't truly trust the green light to tell if a person is physically present. You know how it is... the lights are on, but nobody is home. Player has logged onto the game in the last 5 mins.
This means that the member has been online in the last 24 hours or day. Player has logged onto the game in the last 24 hours.
This means that the member has not been online for 24 to 48 hours (1 to 2 days). This one also seems to be glitch some times and will go yellow after 12 hours. Player has logged onto the game in the last 24-48 hours.
This means that the member has not been online for the last 48 to 168 hours (3 to 7 days). Player has logged onto the game in the last 48-168 hours (2 to 7 days)
This means that the member has not been online in the last week (7 days). Player's last time logging onto the game was more than 7 days ago. After 28 days, a player is also removed from the rankings and will no longer appear when searched for. If a leader goes red, they will be automatically removed from the leadership position after 60 days (as of 2022), made a deputy and the deputy that has been in the co-op the longest will become the new leader. (If no deputies, it goes to the oldest member.)
